There is no Windows port as of yet (Linux & Mac currently), but I hope to have that soon. I just finished porting it to ChucK 1.2.0.7 and it will be fairly easy to port to the new version of ChucK that is about to appear. [OT] CMC Fün Nite for laptop improv

Hey cHUck-STers: An item of interest for the New York crowd, and I know there are a few of you. At the CMC we are starting a monthly evening of laptop/electronic performance called "CMC Fün Nite." The first one is this Thursday (March 1). See the press release below. If its not fun, its poorly named, so come out and join the fun! -------------- Press release: This coming Thursday evening (March 1) marks the inaugural event in a monthly meeting devoted to informal performance and discussion of laptop improvisation in the New York area. We're calling these "CMC fün nites" and our intention is to provide a dorkbot-like forum for artists and musicians involved in technological improvisation. This first event will feature performances and talk by: PG (Terry Pender and Brad Garton, possible video enhancements by Luke Dubois) Sam Pluta (audio and video improvisations) Nick Didkovsky (improvisational pieces by Dr. Nerve!) Cpu time between audio samples?

Dear ChuKees, I am particularely interested in the wonderful feature which allows me to calculate EVERY SINGLE AUDIO SAMPLE prior to outputting it to the dac via the impulse ugen. Is there a rough estimation just how much calucaltion can go on between each sample at 44100hz? Does this depend on the cpu type and speed, or is there an inherent ChuK limit? I want to create some amazing sounds by making extremly complicated computations for each sample, as in theory one could just create about any sound in the world this way (including semi-talented clarinet players just having been woken up from a deep alpha-cycle..---)) Thanks and cheers, Karl.

On old versions of chuck, I always rename the executable with the version number before make/ installing the new one. That way I can revert if old code doesn't work by using the explicit version-numbered one. PRC

hi i am really sorry for this ultra-idiotic question but for some reason it is driving me nuts... i am running chuck from the command line on os x. when i try to run a patch like this: SinOsc S => dac; the compiler complains about: "undefined type 'SinOsc'" So typing that in lowercase works. So when I want to do this: SinOsc s => LPF f => dac; SinOsc works when i use 'sinosc' (all lower) but no matter what permutation of LPF i try it just doesnt work... Could this be that something is screwed up with my path? Is it not able to find that Ugen ? I am lost Thanks for all the help ! - jochen

Intensive 2 week workshop on creating performance works for laptop ensembles! Much ChucKing involved... ----- Stanford | CCRMA Summer Workshop: Composing and Coding for Laptop Ensemble (CCL) 2 weeks July 23 - August 3, 2007 Dan Trueman and Ge Wang, with Perry Cook Emphasizing hands-on approaches, this workshop will address the challenges of making music in laptop ensembles. At the core of the workshop will be a set of meta-instruments (laptops with 6-channel hemispherical speakers, associated audio gear, sensors, and controllers) from the Princeton Laptop Orchestra (PLOrk, see http://plork.cs.princeton.edu/). Together, we will act as performers, researchers, composers, and software developers, focusing our attention on instrument design, composition, and music making with these instruments. The challenges are many: what kinds of sounds can we create? how can we physically control these sounds? how do we compose with these sounds? There are also social questions with musical and technical ramifications: how do we organize ourselves in this context? with a conductor? via a wireless network? And so on. Morning sessions will focus primarily on instrument design, composition, and coding issues using the languages ChucK and Max/MSP. Experience with these languages, or programming languages in general, is not required but will be beneficial; depending on the makeup of the group, we may at times divide into smaller groups to teach experience-appropriate skills as needed. We will look at how various composers and engineers have addressed the challenges posed by laptop ensembles and brainstorm new approaches. Afternoon sessions will emphasize music-making of already existing pieces and new pieces created by workshop members.
