hi, Hope this is appropriate here. After dipping in and out of Chuck for the last couple of years I have decided to dive in so have been doing my own ChucK a day thing you can see it at www.ablelemon.co.uk/chuckaday. If any one has any suggestions as to things to try please let me know. As part of the processes I have been building a chuck php syntax highlighter. At the moment it is a bit of a mess but am working to clean it up for release. happy ChucKer Scott

The ChucK Gong Show

OK, news: The ChucK Show has degenerated into The Gong Show with both reckless joy and disgrace, ah well. We're going to do a "Name - that - tune" style show next friday at 7pm EST on www.electro-music.com and it will also be like "The Gong Show". Everyone in the chatroom gets one gong. We try to name that tune but if someone gets sick of the song they can gong it with their one and only gong. Of course, once someone has gonged we are all free to commence gonging until the hosts notice or whatever. So gong only once yet gong at will. Aside from that points will be tallied up for who first mentions the artist, title, and instrument of the song. So you can win up to three points per song. The judging will be randomly and haphazardly done by whoever is appointed plus me at the moment. So join us, and I also have a request... I need game show sounds in ChucK to add to my controller program for the show. A big old gong would be nice, plus maybe some buzzers or whatever. If you would like to contribute to the show's sound effects please post your code to this list or to the forum. Thanks, Comically yours, Les

Kas, You win the most esoteric joke of the year award for that one. Only a subset of a specific type of programmer will get the joke, and I barely do myself. Nice work, now you can move up to ziggy cartoons. :) Les

Hi, thanks everyone for the replies. Gen[n] and CurveTable are useful I will give them a try. If i'm not mistaken the curves generated this way pass through the intermediate points, so I was thinking of bezier curves because they pass in between the intermediate points and meet only the edges and they are smoother. Thanks for the code Mike! I looked at your technique and I have a couple of observations/questions. I guess you disconnect the envelope to save cpu when not needed. But you have the phasor in ( .op() == 0 ) - probably for the same reason - which I haven't verified it but according to the manual should still be active but giving output of 0 - so it wastes cpu, no? And shouldn't be needed to block the input since you use the multiplier's gain for it, no? I usually use the passthru status ( .op() == -1 ) which shouldn't use any cpu. I post part of my envelope class in case anybody would be interested in this way. Last week on the ChucK show we had a great time with PLOrk and beans, and we have enough material left over for a second PLOrk and beans show which will happen next week (Plork and Beans leftovers, mmmm). This week, today in about seven hours in fact, we will have a Nord Modular show. It's mostly very mellow, relaxing stuff with some tenser moments plus some really upbeat happy music too. Hello everyone, I have encountered a behaviour in my adventures with ChucK that I cannot really understand. But the function that I spork prints only before and then quits. ?????
