granular music recommendations?

Yo All....I'm trying to download and study some of the best music out there which features granular synthesis. I haven't heard much yet beyond Iannis Xenakis, but I'd love to know what your favorites are. Perhaps it would be worthwhile putting up a torrent of the same. If possible, kindly provide links to mp3 files or any other type of free downloads. Scale & diatonic

I have made a program, scale.ck, that admits one to work with scales, including tuning stretch, céleste tremulant, retune them, and then save to a file, with a line of code that can be pasted back into the source, available at next program startup. Scale tunings can be put into tuning banks, and otherwise defined by your favorite method. Details in the file. I have also updated my program for diatonic tuning systems, diatonic.ck. Filters blowing up: any news?

At the end of November last year I posted to the list about a problem experiencing where chucks filters (lp, bpf etc) 'blow up' under certain conditions. Here's the archived post: https://lists.cs.princeton.edu/pipermail/chuck-users/2009-November/005045.h… I wondered if anyone has made any progress with finding a solution and/or figuring out exactly what was causing this. In a couple of months I'll be performing with a synthesis environment that I was part way through creating in ChucK before I ran into the filter bug. I'm hoping that I don't have to switch back to max/msp to go further (i much prefer the chuck environment), so I thought i'd give this one more bump on the list to see if there may be a fix in SCM, or otherwise in the pipeline somehow. If anyone is able to fix this I'd be extremely grateful!

bug in miniAudicle?

Hi, I ran into a strange issue with miniAudicle on Mac during the ChucK workshop given by Kassen at the LAC. It turns out that the block comment is not working in the way it works on Linux. The bug seems to be that a block comment signs /* and */ need semicolons behind them to actually work. Leave them out and the Virtual Machine returns a syntax error. Is this a know problem? greets Maurits

"switch" statements?

Hey team, "switch" shows up as a keyword in the mini, but it's undocumented. Any ideas? I tried the java syntax (since ChucK seems to be like java) but can't seem to not get syntax errors. Thanks. Andrew

Emptying two arrays with the same object causes "failed assertion `m_ref_count > 0'"

Here's some code: ------------------------------------- class MyThing { int x; } // Two identical arrays, typewise MyThing arga[0]; MyThing argb[0]; // Create an instance MyThing thing; 5 => thing.x; // Push it into arga arga << thing; // Push it into argb argb << thing; <<< "n=", arga[0].x >>>; <<< "n=", argb[0].x >>>; // clear arga 0 => arga.size; // clear argb - crash! 0 => argb.size; ------------------------------------- when I run it I get: ------------------------------------- $ chuck test. ck n= 5 n= 5 chuck_oo.cpp:120: failed assertion `m_ref_count > 0' Abort trap ------------------------------------- It seems that that 0 => arga.size decrements a reference count for thing, causing it to be freed, and then when the same thing is attempted for argb, it crashes. Possibly some reference increment missing when doing argb << thing ? /Stefan -- Release me, insect, or I will destroy the Cosmos!

reading stereo file with WvIn

Hi I'm trying to do something with WvIn. As SndBuf WvIn seems to be mono, however the old trick of using to SndBuf's each with different (0/1 IIRC) chucked to channel, doesn't seem to work with WvIn. Any ideas? -- Atte http://atte.dk http://modlys.dk

Flush ChucK IO

Hi All, I am trying to make a visualization program for ChucK programs. For the communication between ChucK and the C++ code I'm writing, I use a pipe. I'd rather use a socket but I cannot see how this works in ChucK (?). When I write to chout I need to flush the buffer, just to read in the output using my own program. When I try to do this (i.e. my_IO_object.flush()) I get the following message: "(IO): internal error! inside an abstract function! help! note: please hunt down someone (e.g., Ge) to fix this..." The command I use is: chuck-1.2.1.3-exe\bin\chuck.exe chuckVis\chuckFiles\random1.ck, on Windows Vista 32-bits. Without the .flush() the script works fine, but I need the flush functionality. Has anybody got a clue how to fix this? Or maybe how to use ChucK to send messages through a socket? Greetings, Tom Aizenberg

PItShift and SndBuff .rate = Scrubbing?

Hi, Sorry I didn't see the obvious... But I still wanted to know if I'm on the right track: I would use: # .rate - ( float , READ/WRITE ) - set/get playback rate ( relative to file's natural speed ) To "get" the playback rate (I'm guessing it some kind of ratio???) I would then use that info to pitch shift the sound file using PitShift. Am I on the right track? B.
