Yo All....I'm trying to download and study some of the best music out there which features granular synthesis. I haven't heard much yet beyond Iannis Xenakis, but I'd love to know what your favorites are. Perhaps it would be worthwhile putting up a torrent of the same. If possible, kindly provide links to mp3 files or any other type of free downloads. Jack Server shuts down ChucK client ...

So, i'm trying to write a simple SawOsc-Synth with Polyphony, triggered by OSC messages ... You can check it out here: https://github.com/the-drunk-coder/graa/blob/master/shreds/buzz.ck As i want to use a filter with adsr, i can't just spork a single method right ? But, with the current version, the Jack-Server (i'm on Linux) shuts the client down, with the following message: (JACK) the JACK server is shutting down this client... ... stream stopped and closed! Saving state

extending buildin Ugen (eg SndBuf)

Hi Thought I could inherit from SndBuf and extend by overiding some funtions: public class Beat extends SndBuf{ int last_pos; fun void tempo_match(dur match_length){ length()/match_length => rate; } fun void pos(int sample){ if(sample < 0){ last_pos => sample; } sample => s.pos => last_pos; } fun void random(int nb_slices){ Math.random2(0,nb_slices-1) * samples()/nb_slices => pos => last_pos;; } } but chuck gives me: [lib_beat2.ck]:line(13): function 'Beat.pos' matches 'SndBuf.pos' but cannot override... Kas/others, It's even a little stranger than one might think. On Mac OSX, it's really hard to clip at all. For example, this code: SinOsc s => dac; 8.0 => s.gain; second => now; runs and sounds fine. You might need to turn your master system volume down so it doesn't blow out your headphones or speakers, but if you do that, you will hear a pretty pure sine wave. The proper gain for this should be 1.0 (the default), but it works ok up to pretty large numbers, but only on Macs. I haven't tried this in a VM Windoze on Mac, and I'm not sure how the audio is virtualized in this case. BUT This very same code would cause hideous distortion on a Windows/ Linux machine, because those audio subsystems have a hard limit on the amplitude that can be sent into the dacs. Mac seems to have figured out a how to deal with this in a very different (floating point) way. PRC > 2. I'm using the hell out of it on Yosemite. Only problems I've observed are: Something odd going on with Processing sending OSC to ChucK. It works sometimes, then not. Something odd going on with networked pieces like CliX, Gamelan, etc. Possibly a new machine/firewall settings issue rather than Yosemite Not Yosemite problem, but newer machine problem: SSD machines have no SMS hardware, so all PLOrk canon examples that use the accelerometers like droner, my LORx Aeterna, BBLVL, etc. die on launch. I've hacked versions that check for SMS, then fail by opening up a listen for TouchOSC tilt messages thread. Then you can just lay your phone on the computer and it all works fine. Any way to call an arbitrary function with some value

I’m pretty sure I know the answer to this already – its not a dynamic language... However, I can put a UGen method into a variable, but I cannot apply it: ... SndBuf2 input; input.gain @=> Object f; ... This compiles, but can I apply it to an argument? Am trying to find a way of modifying arbitrary parameters via osc that doesn’t include writing unmaintainable code: ... if (parameterName == “gain”) myUgen.gain (value); ... etc ... Am I missing something...? -- Rich

OSC Server

I’ve written a very simple osc server which shuttles messages between chuck and a browser (only tested via Firefox so your milage may vary). I’ve written helper classes for chuck that make it easy to make a parameter modifiable remotely. The browser connects to the server via socket.io and the chuck instance uses UDP to talk to the server via osc. The server is written in node.js.
