Yo All....I'm trying to download and study some of the best music out there which features granular synthesis. I haven't heard much yet beyond Iannis Xenakis, but I'd love to know what your favorites are. Perhaps it would be worthwhile putting up a torrent of the same. If possible, kindly provide links to mp3 files or any other type of free downloads. Chunity (ChucK for Unity): Release!

Dear all, Hello! I'm happy to announce the initial official release of Chunity (ChucK for Unity)! http://chuck.stanford.edu/chunity/ http://u3d.as/1bvM Chunity is the integration of ChucK in Unity. (For those of you not familiar with the Unity game engine, Chunity gives you the ability to do realtime sound + music generation natively in Unity, tightly coupled to interactions with graphical objects.) You can use most (possibly all?) ChucK features, run new ChucK code on-the-fly at any time, and communicate between Unity and ChucK using "global" (new keyword!) ints, floats, strings, Events, and 1D int and float arrays. (More types to come!) You can even run multiple VMs that share the same strong timing! LiSa.feedback behavior

Hello all — I'm working with the LiSa.feedback parameter and it doesn't seem to be behaving as expected. I was assuming 0 would be "keep nothing when overdubbing" and 1 would be "keep everything." This doesn't seem to be the case; it seems to be default to something near 50%. I have confirmed that I am changing the property but the behavior seems to be stuck at the default. I have tried value as high as 100, which gives some crackling, but no change in behavior. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks in advance, Greg

question: import/export functions and classes

Hi All, I am new to this mailing list, I am an italian mathematician working in IT since 2005. I used chuck some time ago (around 2009?) to generate music with prime numbers and it was great! I really like ChucK, both features and syntax. Now I would like to create a collection of chuck programs to do some live coding and having fun with music. I am really excited, as a mathematician, about the fact that ChucK supports complex numbers. There are some features I look for in a programmin languange and complex numbers are a nice to have. Another feature I usually look for is packaging, I was reading documentation and it looks like (or at least I could not find) a way to import / export a function or a class. For example I would like to create a folder with some functions and classes and reuse them with some sort of export / import: is that possible currently in chuck? For example, a function that iterates, I don't know, for example with Julia's formulas, could be used by different instruments, so it would be handy to define it in a file, say it julia.ck, and import it in other ChucK files. chuck serial arduino weirdness

Dear chuckians, Not sure how many of you have messed with the serial objects - but I’m having a bit of a head-scratcher and wondered if anyone had any ideas about this. I built a little box with one knob and one switch - which I’m planning to use as a master volume and mute switch for a multichannel audio installation that is running in Chuck. I then wrote a little chuck script, based partially on one of Spencer’s examples. It simply grabs the data and prints it to the console. It works great for awhile, but after a few minutes, it always crashes with an array-out-of-bounds exception: NullPointerException: (array access) on line[35] I’m grabbing two ints, and looping through and printing them out. Why is the array size suddenly getting mucked up here? It’s intermittent, and sometimes doesn’t happen for several minutes, but always results in a crash eventually. Any ideas?? FLOSS Manual update

Hi, I just added 2 chapters (and updated an existing one), to the ChucK FLOSS manual (https://en.flossmanuals.net/chuck <https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fen.flossmanuals.net%2Fchuck%3F…>). * Array Object Functions * String Object Functions * Other Objects Reference (added FileIO and SeriaIO) There's still 'some' work to do to make the FLOSS manual really comprehensive, but we'll eventually get there Next step would probably be a bit of text formatting. Especially in the various 'reference' sections, there are too many 'styles'. Just a quick note about the FLOSS manual and ChucK documentation in general. What I always found difficult (especially at the begin of my adventure with ChucK), was the fact the the documentation wasn't centralized. There are plenty of places on the internet where you can find bits and bops, but none is really comprehensive (some are outdated, some just incomplete, and so on). I believe ChucK is now mature enough and needs a fully comprehensive (and official) documentation. The FLOSS manual could help with that (my personal opinion, open for discussions :) ). Wouldn't be easier if there was THE place where all the documentation is? Looking forward to hearing from you. Very interesting question, and I don’t know. In case the answer comes back no tho: I’ve done this by launching with the start time in a command line argument. Then added “now” to that to get current time. Perhaps the Chuck Book might at least provide good examples. I don’t know of a formal style guide. I think we authors, while differing from each other, generally use OOP conventions we brought from C++, Java, (and myself) Objective C and Smalltalk.
