Thanks for reporting this, this is a straight up bug. It has been fixed in SVN now. 

Until the next formal release, it will probably work to specify your ADC like this:
chuck --adc:"Apogee Electronics: Jam"

or to choose the desired input device as the default in System Preferences -> Sound (assuming you don't want to play fast and loose with a build from SVN).

Same without the Jam connected, or with Apogee ONE connected, or with
Presonus AudioBox USB connected.  Am I just missing something?
