Ed, I think you're referring to the instructions posted here: http://chuck.cs.princeton.edu/doc/build/ The person from Apple you spoke with was "kind of" right. Any time you type sudo in the terminal, you could potentially cause some serious damage. That said, if you copy the commands posted on that page exactly, you won't have any problems. If you'd like to avoid this Terminal stuff all together, just install the miniAudicle - you'll be able to get started with ChucK and run ChucK programs: http://audicle.cs.princeton.edu/mini/mac/ If you'd ever like to run your ChucK programs without having to run the miniAudicle, you'll have to install the chuck executable to /usr/bin/ as described in the instructions you saw. If you have any problems getting stuff working, please feel free to shoot another email! Good luck! Best, Mark On Aug 5, 2010, at 9:49 AM, Edward Herbst wrote:
Hi,
The installation instructions I downloaded say to reconfigure the terminal of a Mac but the Apple people I consulted advised me not to do that. They say reconfiguring the terminal is outside the warrantee and they see it as potentially destroying the computer!
Is there another way to install ChucK without altering the terminal? Thanks for advice,
