This is a problem that has arisen a some times in the sc list, and many people report having luck just plugging and unplugging headphones on the headphone plug. Don't remember the reason, you might try searching the sc-users mailing list if curious.

I tried to fiddle around with that too before removing Perian, but it does not really help. There are though other components that have been attributed to this problem. Hans
