Postdoctoral Position with the Princeton Laptop Orchestra (PLOrK)
The Princeton University Department of Music invites applications for a 12-month post-doctoral appointment (July 1, 2008-June 30, 2009) with the Princeton Laptop Orchestra (PLOrk; for more information about PLOrk, visit plork.cs.princeton.edu). The position, under the supervision of two members of the faculty from the Departments of Music and Computer Science, and funded by a one-time grant from the MacArthur Foundation, entails: 1. Co-teaching of graduate seminar on music technology in the fall semester 2. Co-teaching of the joint PLOrk undergraduate courses (MUS 314/316) in the spring semester 3. Assist faculty with the development of new PLOrk technologies, focusing on both hardware and software development. 4. Composition of new work for PLOrk 5. Assist with outside artists on PLOrk compositions, aiding and advising on the composition of new works 6. Involvement with PLOrk performances, both on and off campus, assisting with the organization and production of concerts. Essential Qualifications Ph.D. in Music or related field, completed by starting date. Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate will have experience with: performing and composing with real-time hardware and software audio systems; programing in both ChucK and Max/MSP languages; networking in musical environments; the design and fabrication of audio/user-interface hardware; studio management and ensemble direction.
