My experience was that the soundcard maxed out at +-4V. That was enough for me; at 1 V/octave that means 8 octaves for notes and enough amplitude to give the VCF a thorough sweep. It simple in ChucK too: the difference between 0.0 and 0.25 is 1 octave, between 0.25 and 0.5 is 1 octave and so on.I don't know how to test the voltages without a scope or a meter - nice gear to have around when working with CV anyhow.
