Classic scales and note frequencies

Just as a little benefit to everyone out there (and mainly because I myself grew annoyed), I looked up the frequencies for a welltempered scale, hacked out the ChucK commands assigning those frequencies to names I could cope with, looked up a list of MANY canonical scales, hacked that to a format I liked, and produced a small example ChucK script that will play a mandolin tune in any "cultural" melodic context you want. =) By the way. I WANT arrays. This'd be SO much easier with arrays! Scoping and wishlists

So, if I define things in one .ck file and then add it to a running loop, all things are local to that file, right? Is there any way of defining very global stuff? So that I could edit and spork completely independently one snippet that plays some loop and another snippet that changes some parameters (for instance having a continuous mandolin hammering away, but changing scales and other parameters that control its tune...) Another thing - I've been on about this before a little... As of now, the biggest restraint I find is that I have NO idea of the finer details of the language. At all. Can I manipulate strings? Can I concatenate strings? Is there any way to give output without getting a newline automagically? audio routing

greetings all! first off, thanks for ChucK. i've been messing around with it for about a week and it has proven itself as a fun and useful tool. i can see myself using it regularly, but i have hit a bit of a wall. is there any way to get chuck to talk to other applications? i'm using chuck mainly on my powerbook (os x), so if i could get it to talk via jackd or soundflower, that would be quite cool. having grown quite accustomed to my linux setup and being able to run anything anywhere via jack, it feels a bit strange and lonely, this being unable to mangle things in other apps. i do a lot of improvising and would just love to run some of the stuff i'm finding in ChucK through my personal library of PD patches. this might be a back burner item (and that's totally cool) but i'm hoping that i'm just missing something obvious. any pointers? thanks and happy noise making! j.c.w. http://othertime.com

how do two chuck instances running on different machine synchronize when sending an audio stream over netin/netout? two computers with two audio cards that don't share the same master clock means that we have a clock skew between the two machines. is there any resampling involved?

Developing chuck

Hello, I'm playing with chuck 1.1.5.2 on Linux-based Pentium 4 and dual-Opteron systems. First of all, chuck is fascinating and entertaining. Please accept the following comments as an offer of assistance for improving chuck: 1) The current build system is very simple, but also very non-traditional and inflexible for a Unix environment. An autoconf build might be more effective, along the lines of ../configure --sound=alsa --prefix=/usr/local/bin make make install 2) Chuck is sometimes balky (e.g., it can't find the sound card) on my Pentium 4, but it works fine most of the time. On my AMD64, I get the same segmentation fault mentioned by Mark Constable. 3) During a build with -Wall -pedantic, I see quite a few warnings, ranging from portability problems to casting problems. Are any of these issues something you are interested in having someone such as myself take a look at? If so, what is the best procedure for providing patches to chuck? Dear All, chuck-1.1.5.1 is released. Most of the focus in this is on improving on-the-fly programming.
