Thanks for the pointer!  Unfortunately I should have also specified  
"in C or C++".  I do have your wonderful Serial/Cereal code for  
windows.  Currently searching for a equally compact and flexible  
implementation for OS X and Linux.

Any additional hints/thoughts?
