Thanks for the explanation. I got some of it.

I spend quite a lot of time playing with the filters, and one of my 
experiments is attached. The first round sounds like a candidate for a 
non-resonant low pass filter. Am I right in deducting from this (quite 
brain dead) experiment(s) that in order to do such a filter sweep one 
has to adjust the radius while taming the volume? Or am I totally 
missing something here?
