Dear All, chuck-1.2.0.0 is released. (Sorry.) This is the "v2" major release. Additions include arrays, objects and classes, events, and more. A full list of new and updated features can be found at the end of this email. http://chuck.cs.princeton.edu/ We have also put together a draft of a language specification (finally). It is not complete yet and will be improved as (real) time is advanced: http://chuck.cs.princeton.edu/doc/language/ We have been testing this release along the way. However, since this is the initial release, there is probably a healthy amount of egregious bugs! Please let us know if you run into anything fishy (email one of us directly, post to chuck-dev or the newly created chuck-users list). Same goes for the documentation. Actually, any type of feedback would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks to the great people who have contributed ideas, code, and time to this release! new user here with some questions

Hi, i'm a german nerd/musician and i'm plaing with chuck atm. I succesfully compiled the latest release for jack support. But it seems chuck has some RT issues. running the mand-o-matic example i get a cpu load of about 2-3% but xruns nonetheless. I run jackd at a buffer size of 256 frames atm (which is plenty huge for my standards. i.e. i use 16 or 32 frames to apply realtime effects to my guitar via jack-rack - completely xrun free. This is a nicely tuned realtime preemption system with a delta 66). I heard there's a 1.2 version in cvs. Does it have this kind of problem also? BTW: i get quite a few clicks/pops on moving windows/etc. even w/o RtApiJack: audio overrun/underrun reported! and xruns. But there's quite a few of these, too. Inspecting ~$ ps -C chuck -cmL PID LWP CLS PRI TTY TIME CMD 23421 - - - pts/6 00:00:07 chuck - 23421 TS 24 - 00:00:04 - - 23422 FF 109 - 00:00:02 - it seems to my uneducated eye, that chuck has two threads. One running SCHED_FIFO (probably the jack process() thread) and another SCHED_OTHER thread. Maybe the RT thread often waits for the SCHED_OTHER thread which gets starved by other cpu activity (like moving windows, etc) If this is a RTFM! issue i will be happy to accept pointers. hi world. i've been dabbling for a while with chuck now, and have a little doubt i've seen this in various of the provided examples (this one is from the band-o-matic.ck // pentatonic 2 * std.rand2( 0, 4 ) => int freq; if( freq == 6 ) 7 => freq; if( freq == 8 ) 9 => freq; std.mtof( (float)( 21 + std.rand2(0,5) * 12 + freq ) ) => band.freq; if ( std.randf() > 0.7 ) std.rand2(0,3) => band.preset; } and i see that it generates a pentatonic scale (in fact i've used it as provided and works). But i don't really understand how it works. i can get the first three lines, but i don't now what std.mtof is for, so i can't guess what it is for. any kind helping hand? thanx a lot. the deeper i know chuck, the more i love it!! cheers!

I was using Live for this project, but i've recently decided to give ChucK a try as i have been using it on my other project Artifact. Turns out ChucK works really well for tracking DnB. Hi to everyone!, Hi Chuckit list! We're David & Ivan Rodriguez, RBF-soft. [producing], Electronic Artists from barcelona - Spain. We presented our last work VIFE _alpha v.01 at NIME'05Vancouver - Canada. VIFE _alpha v.01 is a Virtual Interface to Feel Emotions. The performer user can control 6 three dimensional sonorous forms with an interactive glove (VIFE _glove v.01) & an anlaysing box (R-CUBE IV). The works investigate the idea of Synaesthesia and her enormous possibilities creating new realities, sensations and zones, where the user can find new points of interaction. In NIME'05 we knew *Ge* *Wang* and *Perry* *Cook*. So interesting people ;) :) After that we presented this project in SONAR'05 (Barcelona), too. For our next project, we're working with Chuck like a sonorous engine. Chuckis so powerfull and don't need any visual interface, only the console. This is very important for our next work, because we need to save resources and energy to use it in other things like, analysis of audio, synthesis, sonorous effects,...
