SndBuf .interp has no effect on smoothness

Hi, I was told that in order to smoothen my slow-rated sample playback i should use .interp. In the script i added it but I don't hear any difference. Help! me.sourceDir() + "sound.wav" => string filename; if( me.args() ) me.arg(0) => filename; SndBuf buf => dac; filename => buf.read; 2 => buf.interp; .2 => buf.rate; buf.length() => now; // play him 1::ms => now; // wait a bit 1 => buf.loop; // loop homer now buf.length() => now; // for 2 seconds .1 => buf.rate;

.interp doesn’t do what you think it does. It just specifies the type of internal interpolation for smoothing of playback (only applicable for non 1.0 rates). SndBuf .loop just tells it to start over at the beginning when it reaches the end (or end after reaching the beginning): SndBuf s => dac; "special:dope" => s.read; // load homer s.length() => now; // play him second => now; // wait a bit 1 => s.loop; // loop homer now 2*second => now; // for 2 seconds -1 => s.rate; // then play him backward 2*second => now; // for two more If you need to loop a specific piece of a sound in SndBuf, you should either: edit that in a sound editor and save/ it as a new file. Figure out the exact sample points within the wave that should be your start and end loop points. Then use .pos and => now to loop it. You don’t even need .loop mode for that, because it will keep playing as long as the start is within the buffer boundaries. If you want smooth looping without pops at the edges, you could maybe use an ADSR to smooth the beginning and end. Not sure of your application here, but SndBuf is not a flexible sample playback UGen that knows about loops like a SoundFont player would. You script got scrubbed for some reason, but I suspect that you’re shadowing the global somehow locally (if you use the same name as an argument or a local within a function, it masks the global version). Here’s a simple example of using a global: 1000 => float freqGlob; // global frequency variable SinOsc s => dac; // note that this osc is treated globally as well spork ~ sweep(); while (true) { // main loop randomly (re)sets freq Std.rand2f(500.0,3000.0) => freqGlob => s.freq; Std.rand2f(0.3,1.0)::second => now; } // this shred sweeps the frequency exponentially down fun void sweep() { while (true) { (0.999*=> freqGlob) => s.freq; ms => now; } }

inter-shred communication - using global

Hi, In " ChucK : Language Specification > Concurrency & Shreds" i read about using global variables. Unfortunately i don't succeed changing the variables in a way that the function uses this changed value of the variable. It keeps on using the old (initial) value of this variable. What am i doing wrong?? This is my script:

Hi, In my attempt to loop-play 1 portion of the soundbuffer for a certain periode time(2000 milliseconds in my example) i get a kind of clicking when the geginning of the sample pos is different from the ending.. Maybe .loop and .interp of SndBuf is a solution here. Anyone who knows how to use them? SndBuf Passing args to running functions

Hi, I'm in big trouble. I'v been trying for a long time now to change an argument in a running function. As you can see in my script i set a certain central pos ("70000")to buf.pos as a central position in my soundbuffer and i let my function LFOtoPOS circle around it. Once the "spork" instruction has started the process i can't figure out how to addresss the argument "centralpos" to change it on the fly or by another function or parameter. Some help please ...
