ADSR modulation question

Hi there I'd like to setup a patch like this... noise n => biquad f => dac; ...and then have an adsr modulate f.pfreq. I know how to use ADSR for modulating volume (just send it through) and I also know that the modulation can be done with explicit timing using a loop and chucking to now at "control rate". current bug summary (partial, obviously)

Hi all! Here is quick summary of some bugs/features recently discussed. bugs - to be fixed by 1.2.0.7 or earlier. 1. --/++: incorrect behavior when used inline 2. sporking non-static member functions: this doesn't or at least shouldn't work - we are on it 3. declaring multiple variables: float a, b, c; causes incorrect behavior 4. static variables of classes (another long standing bug) missing features, in addition to the usual ones (strings etc.): 1. iterating over contents of associative arrays 2. multiple class declarations over time (a better way to deal with classes on-the-fly) 3. on-the-fly replacement by name (when possible) 4. better sndbuf for stereo/multichannel playback Best, Ge!

improving the emacs mode

Hi I'm very fond of the (recent) emacs mode. But I think a few improvements could/should be made: 1) On http://wiki.cs.princeton.edu/index.php/ChucK/Dev/Tools the recent mode is pasted into the wiki. I had trouble downloading (or rather copying/pasting) it and getting it to work. A link to an external download would be better. Maybe it could even be part of the chuck download... 2) Indention could/should be improved: a) Loading a chuck file messes up the indention, even if the indention was made by the mode itself. b) Some valid placements of brackets are not handled correctly by the mode, for instance: while(true){ if(true){ // always } else { // never } } c) Indention of comments are a bit strange. If I put "//" at the very beginning of an intented line, the mode will indent the "//"s the the correct place. Maybe it would be better to simply disregard commented out lines when doing indention. 3) Comment-region and Uncomment-region doesn't work. It seems its only a matter of defining a comment character... 4) Syntax highlighting highlights special words if they're used in a variable with underscore. Example: "my_spork_function". I'd be happy to correct some of this myself, but my lisp skills are practically non-existing. I googled for something helpful to get started with elisp, but failed to find anything. Sporking class member causes NullPointerException?

I tried this: class Test{ 0=>int iz; fun void initTest(){ while(true){ <<<iz>>>; ++iz; 10::ms=>now; } } spork ~ initTest(); } Test o; And got this: [chuck](VM): NullPointerException: shred[id=2:spork~exp], PC=[3] The same code works perfectly when putting the fun reference and spork outside of the class definition. ++ return value

Hi I expected the ++ (and --) operator to work as this: If ++ precedes the variable, e.g. ++i, the value returned is the value in counter after it has been incremented. If ++ follows the variable, e.g. i++, the value returned is the value in counter before it has been incremented. instruments extending StkInstrument

Hi I'm still quite new to chuck, but after going through the "Notes on Chuck for music" tutorial it struck me that a nice way to (over time) build a library of instruments that work in an interchangeable way would be to extend the StkInstrument. Instruments build this way should work like the StifKarp instrument used in the tutorial. I realize that this in some/most cases comes of fine grain control of the sound, but thinking about it that's the way I prefer thinking about instruments; encapsulated sound generating units. For instance I have over time build a library of over 100 midi-controlled realtime csound instruments that I use all the time. It this a recommended way of making instruments? Any documentation or examples on how to do this? How much slower would a userspace implementaion be compared to the buildin instruments? newbie questions

ok, newbie chucker here, with dumb questions: 1. is it true that the archives for this list are not searchable? i would be most delighted to avoid asking dumb questions by searching the archives first. 2. confused is me trying to set some STK time parameters. for instance: // noise n => ADSR e => dac; 400::ms => dur t => e.attackTime; // doesn't work, which is ok since i know: // .4 => e.attackTime; // does work, but it would make more sense to me to be able to send durs around consistently, especially when i see something like this: // noise n => Envelope e => dac; std.rand2f(10,500)::ms => dur t => e.duration; // that works. now, things become more mysterious when i find that "duration" is not documented online as part of Envelope, which makes me wonder if i'm missing something, and also wonder what other interesting things remain undocumented. is it just that some of the STK ugens have been extended to take durs, but not all? most joyfully attempting to chuck, dan

putting samples in array

Hi I've got a breakbeat that I chopped up at every 16note. Now I'd like to play these samples one after another. Could set up 16 sndbuf's each connected to the dac, but wouldn't that be inefficient? I'm thinking it might be smarter to load the samples into an array and play a different one on each pass, but is this possible.
