how best to resize array?

Hi, I am creating an array, but i don't know how big I need it to be at the time it is instantiated. Once I figure out what I want that size to be, how do I assign it? The current solution i have is this: int array[]; int size; // do stuff { // new block keeps dummy from clogging namespace int dummy[size]; dummy @=> array; } Is there a better way? Regards, George

reset namespace in miniAudicle

Hi, I'm writing up a class, and I can't seem to test the changes I make to it without restarting miniAudicle. The problem is that I get "class/type 'myClass' is already defined in namespace 'global'" errors when I "add shred" in the window defining the class. Any help? Regards, George

I'm a Swarthmore College Engineering professor trying to help a blind student with data sonification (or auralization). It was suggested that Matlab, which is our primary analysis language, could send OSC packets via UDP to chuck, which reads OSC packets and could more easily produce complex sounds than coding directly in Matlab. Do any of you have any experience with osc-mexwin, written by Andy Schmeder? The only version of this I've found lacks the c-code, and contains only the dll files without documentation. Matlab requires that the user know the function names to import dll files and use those functions (such as osc_read and osc_write). Any guidance?

Dear friends, For the Toronto Electroacoustic Symposium 2012 (Aug 15-18 2012) I am again curating a special session on participatory electronic ensemble performance (PEEP) - such as laptop orchestras, live coding groups, telematic improvisation sessions, and other collective electroacoustic forms. I am writing to you now to invite proposals for compositions, instruments, experiments and other activities that might be included in the session. I see this taking shape in an "unconference" kind of way where I will endeavour to include as many of the submitted ideas as possible, taking into account the available time, human and technical resources. The laptop orchestra I direct at McMaster University (the Cybernetic Orchestra) will be at the session ready to perform with selected materials (i.e. we'll be devoting our remaining rehearsals in July and August to preparing for the session). The orchestra is willing to try anything. Live coding with ChucK is the orchestra's core strength - with pockets within the orchestra developing strong skills with MaxMSP and SuperCollider. But I repeat: we are willing to try anything! Feel free to make proposals involving other performers at the symposium, symposium attendees, and the general public also. So… if you are involved with participatory electronic ensemble performance in any form (or know people who are) - please consider sending me (or encouraging someone else to send me) a proposal. Hi, I still feel new to chuck, and I'm wondering if there's a UGen that will make a (linear/whatever) ramp from its current value to a specified new value over a specified time? Might there be a way to hack the GenX or Envelope objects to behave this way? (For ppl familiar with max/msp, I'm looking for something equivalent to line~) I want to use this for modulation and for slewing controller input. Since the timescale i'm interested is on the scale of seconds/fractions of seconds, I suppose there's no real need to use a UGen rather than a class or function or something, but I'm still wrapping my head around the way that the ChucK language operates. Hi Is it possible to split a string into an array of chars? Or work with parts of strings in other ways? src/util_string.h mentions these string related functions: std::string itoa( t_CKINT val ); std::string ftoa( t_CKFLOAT val, t_CKUINT precision ); std::string tolower( const std::string & val ); std::string toupper( const std::string & val ); std::string trim( const std::string & val ); std::string ltrim( const std::string & val ); std::string rtrim( const std::string & val ); I couldn't find some of them (like ltrim) in the manual, although they were mentioned in examples. Getting the status of running shreds *into* chuck

Hi I'm working on my chuck live setup again, and have a question I'm fairly sure I asked a (long) while ago: Is it possible to get the status of the VM inside a piece of chuck code? Machine.status() does the same as chuck --status, which is printing the info I need, but unfortunately to a terminal outside of chuck. The thing is, I'm sporking a lot of files from my code, and I need to keep track of which of them are still running at certain points... If this is not directly possible, does anyone have an idea for a hack? If anything else fails I think I might roll up my sleeves and hack in the chuck source, but that the last resort, since I'm not really speaking C++ that fluently... -- Atte http://atte.dk http://modlys.dk

CPU performance and Jack

Hello all, So, I'm doing a bit of heavier crunching and was wondering what aspects of CPU performance are the most critical the JACK's DSP percentage? I've not been able to find a very clear answer and was wondering if this group might know? Does running the dual core version of JACK make more sense with a slightly slower processor, or is speed the real winner in this case? To clarify, I'm basically just heavily crunching incoming audio. Thanks for any insight! -Matt
