miniAudicle success

Hi I installed xubuntu 6.06 on my new (used) T41 ThinkPad, and miniAudicle worked right away (after patching with the UTF patch, version 2). Looking forward to getting more into this nice IDE (and reporting requests:-)) soon! -- peace, love & harmony Atte

note names

There's a convention for naming notes like C4 or Eb3 or A#-1 that seems quite commonly used in music applications. I would very much like a note nme to MIDI note number converter to make certain things I do with ChucK a lot more readable and easy to change - m.noteon(snd.stom("C#4")); for example. The problem is that middle-C (MIDI note 60) is not well defined. Quite a few sources suggest it should be C4 a smaller number suggest C3. Once a function to do the conversion is in ChucK, it would be difficult to change without irritating people who use it. updated MIDIsender wrapper class

I've been playing with the midiwrapper class I sent in yesterday and I'm convinced that it's getting to the useful stage. At least I was able to get ChucK noodling away on several modules while I worked :) With great embarassment I also finally noticed that string comparisons are already there so I can implement this: MIDIsender m; m.open("JD990"); Only works on Mac OS X for the moment, becuase we've got AudioMIDI setup to keep track of where things are plugged in. The interface is there for other platforms if you can identify ports somehow. The latest code for the class, fledgling documentation on how to use it and several examples showing useful functionality are at: http://www.rattus.net/~packrat/audio/ChucK/ I have several other things I want to do, but some of them are waiting on better string handling. A written note (C#3) to midinote converter is pretty high on that list. It might be easier to put into the std library, or should there be a MIDI library? MIDI sending, small messages

I haven't been able to figure this out either from the documentation or the code (although I must admit that I'm still a little fuzzy on how the underlying functions get exported with typing to ChucK programs) How do I send short (2 byte) MIDI messages? I know that in theory spurious bytes won't matter, but since I use older MIDI kit, I don't want to take the chance of confusing it. chuck MIDI handling

Just a question, before I run off and duplicate anything. I use a lot of outboard MIDI stuff and am very interested in using chuck for glue and MIDI generation. As far as I can see, MIDI handling in chuck is fairly clumsy, particularly for MIDI generation. Is anyone currently working on developing a more friendly interface for this or is it worth taking some time over. clearing arrays quickly

If I've got n array of say, ints, either 1 or two dimensional, is there a fast way to clear the array (or set it some constant value of my choice). midiaudicle editor wishlist

Realistically, how much functionality would we expect to see in the midi audicle editor? A few things I'd like ot see included. 1. Autoindent, at least to the point of indenting the same as the line preceding 2. Syntax highlighting understanding hex literals.
