Hi All, I've posted courses I created and taught in the Carleton College Music Department before I retired in 2014. MUSC 101 - Music Fundamentals http://people.carleton.edu/~jellinge/m101s12/index.html The basic fundamentals of music in a web based format using the MiBAC MUSIC LESSON I and MUSIC LESSONS II I wrote during the 90's and 00's. Sadly the business closed in 2012 after 25 years. MUSC 108 - Intro to Music Technology http://people.carleton.edu/~jellinge/m108f13/index.html The focus of this course was learning to "play the computer" with attention to articulation, dynamics, phrasing, rhythmic accents that a performer would use. The first half of the course taught the raw language of MIDI and the format of Standard MIDI Files using Excel spreadsheets. Students used a utility program I wrote called MIDIDisplay that translated the Excel text into MIDI messages they can play and edit. There is also an Excel template for a SMF that, when filled in correctly and pasted into MIDIDisplay, will export the text as a Standard MIDI File. The second half of the course applied that MIDI background to creating a "human" MIDI performance using Apple's Logic 9. MUSC 208 - Computer Music and Sound http://people.carleton.edu/~jellinge/m208w14/index.html The focus of this course was the study of Computer Sound. The primary programs were ChucK and Octave with a little OSC and Processing GUI connected to ChucK at the end. The lectures were geared to teaching students enough about synthesis methods, a little filter theory, and a lot of controlling ChucK with laptop keyboards, gamepads, joysticks, and Golftrak string controllers. There were three student project, and individual research presentation, and two laptop trio performances (7 groups of three students each). There are a lot of code examples designed to give the students tools to create their projects. I deliberately inserted the code as images to prevent students from copying and pasting. I felt typing the code forced them to slow down, think and ask questions. The course was taught as a 110 minute lab every Tuesday and Thursday. kb hid problems

Yes, we tried KBHit. That works fine. Still can't resolve the problem with using Hid. As I said, it recognizes the keyboard device exists (i.e. will connect to it), but doesn't recognize that it is producing any data. Mesh2D for Windows

Calling all Windows Hax@rs. I have discovered (thanks to someone in the online Physics-Based DSP course) that the Mesh2D chugin that’s distributed with the Windows installer is different from that shipped for Mac. (Haven’t checked Linux yet). Unacceptable behaviors include myMesh.x and myMesh.y aren’t recognized. Fix (maybe): myMesh.nx and myMesh.ny seem to be implemented instead. but the worst bug is that myMesh.noteOn won’t accept any arguments, and won’t make sound without them. Has anyone encountered this? (I think I recall some traffic on this list about it a while ago). And has anyone fixed it? And can they hook us up with a compiled executable Mesh2D.chug that we can distribute to people who need it? Thanks, PRC

ChucK definitely has all you need! ChucK is “DSP Complete” (like Turing Complete for computational engines/languages), because since ChucK allows for single-sample connections and manipulations, then we don’t provide lots of flavors of things. You can build from primitives. Like a RISC computer. Some things you mentioned are available: First and 2nd order AllPass are available via the PoleZero (1st) and BiQuad (2nd) UGens. You just need to set the coefficients explicitly. Tapped Delay lines can be implemented using multiple Delay elements. Yea it wastes some memory, but not too much, and works just great: // Taps.ck Tapped Delay via separate delays // by Perry R. Cook, 2015 // Caution about adc => dac!!! Use headphones Delay taps[10]; Pan2 pans[10]; for (int i; i < 10; i++) { adc => taps[i] => pans[i] => dac; Math.random2f(-1.0,1.0) => pans[i].pan; // stereo early reflections Math.random2(20,200) => int tapMs; // random path lengths tapMs :: ms => taps[i].max => taps[i].delay; 10.0/tapMs => taps[i].gain; // 1/distance gain } 10*second => now; AllPass CombFilter can be accomplished with a single delay line and one Gain connecting input to mix with output, and another Gain mixing output back into input. You might want to be cautious about the extra sample gained when feeding back, but for long delays, it doesn’t really make much difference. If you strictly want a true allpass comb, then one extra sample of delay from inlet to your main delay, feeding the fbGain back into the 2nd delay line rather than the first, should take care of it. Hello, I've been reading about various variable delay effects and reverbs recently, and as I don't understand the math and sometimes not even the terminology, I feel a bit lost. I have an approximation here https://github.com/heuermh/lick/blob/master/lick/effect/APF.ck and used it here https://github.com/heuermh/lick/blob/master/lick/effect/LoopReverb.ck It seems to be doing something reverb-ish but I'm not sure what the APF delay values should be. Spencer and Bob, The problem is not exclusively an El Capitan issue. It was already happening in Yosemite before she upgraded. We have tried other device numbers. If it is a correct device number, it will open the keyboard but not receive data. If it is an incorrect device number, it gives the 'couldn’t open' response. This has happened a few times before. The way to check is to change the kbNum and see if using a different number (1, 2, 3, etc.) produce data. You only need to try this until you see "couldn't open keyboard #" for whichever number after 0, which means you've exhausted the list of things ChucK thinks is a keyboard. chuck + chugins + ladspa plugins in docker?

All, Has anyone tried to install chuck + chugins + LADSPA plugins into a Docker image?
