Hi - I hope someone has run into this before. After I installed Jack (to use with Faust, not with Chuck), each time that Chuck runs, it issues a bunch of error messages. If Jack is running, the list of errors is several pages long. If Jack is not running, I get: JAR: Blacklisted client Xquartz JAR: Blacklisted client Terminal JAR: Blacklisted client loginwindow JAR: Blacklisted client Xcode JAR: Blacklisted client SystemUIServer Cannot connect to server socket err = No such file or directory Cannot connect to server request channel jack server is not running or cannot be started JAR: jack server not running or rejected client In either case ChucK seems to run OK. Is this a bug, or is there something that I can do to avoid these messages? Thanks! Daniel

Static Arrays

Hi, I did a ChucK project last year that used public classes and static ints to send data to machines. I was wondering if there are any new developments in sending static arrays to machines. The newest information I can find on this subject dates back to 2007. John Clavin

OscIn: error: unable to create server instance

Hello, so far i have been chucking exclusively from within the miniAudicle (1.3.3). I am using the jack-enabled linux 64 bits version, on Linux Mint Betsy (which is mostly Debian 8). Today i wanted to try the command-line (chuck --loop and chuck + file.ck) and it seems the behavior of the VM is somehow different. Instantiating an OscIn object does not work in the cli, it returns: "OscIn: error: unable to create server instance". I was using the same version of chuck (1.3.5.0) as bundled with miniAudicle. Using -v9, the logs between chuck --loop and miniAudicle console are identical. If i start the VM in the miniAudicle (accepting network commands) and then use chuck + file.ck, file.ck is shredded correctly and OscIn created. That problem might be related to my config since on a second machine this error does not happen (1.3.4.0 64bits. I copied the chuck executable over to the first computer and the error was there again. Is there something obvious i am missing / should be looking for ? Thanks for your help. . e

Hi Folks! I'm needing help understanding what the code for the frequency down below in bold text is doing. Context: I'm trying to build a code that will randomly pick frequencies and rhythms within a given range. As time passes my goal is to write a code that will also allow the frequencies and rhythms to change. I know I'm not ready to understand how to code this yet as I am teaching myself at my own pace. But I would like some help if maybe someone could talk me through what the frequency portion of this code is doing. I took the frame of most of my code from a ChucK example and am changing it for a composition of mine. I don't understand the relationship between the scale part and the freuency part. I don't understand the Math.pow. I do understand math.random2, int, and freq. Importing modules

Hi all, I apologise if I'm just missing the relevant documentation, but I can't see how to import classes from one module into a second module. I want to declare a big base class once and subclasses in a different file. Can anyone tell me if this is possible? Thanks, Ronan -- # r

ChucK and vim

Hi, Since vim is my favourite editor since years I want to use chuck with vim. I tried miniAudicle but I get no sound for whatever reason. I googled for 'chuck vim' and found several different matches...but what to choose and what is recomended? Thank you very much in advance for any help and hint! Best regards, Meino

Hi everybody, i have some osc-triggered synth shreds like the one attached, and tried to spice things up using pan control (basic, i know ...). Now, for the music i have in my mind, the respective shred is triggered about 10 - 15 times per second via OSC, and there are multiple of those shreds, including some granulation shreds. Now, even when i only trigger the attached shred with different pan values, ChucK crashes after a few seconds ... so i don't know, is the shred faulty, or is chuck simply not capable for what i have in mind ? Btw, i'm using Arch linux on a pretty recent laptop with plenty of ram and a fast processor, so resources should not be an issue ... ChucK error message: (JACK) the JACK server is shutting down this client... ... stream stopped and closed! [chuck]: cleaning up... terminate called after throwing an instance of 'RtError' what(): RtApi:: a stream is not open! JACK error message subgraph starting at ChucK timed out (subgraph_wait_fd=9, status = 0, state = Running, pollret = 0 revents = 0x0) Regards, nik

Hi Julien, I can confirm the error here on OSX 10.10 with 1.3.5.1 with that array.ck example. also found that: Noise n[1] => Pan2 p => dac; p.gain(0.1); minute => now; crashes my mini-audicle. Weird, I think it was working correctly in the past ? Yep, this is broken as written in the examples. I think that Spencer and Ge were looking at modifying ChucK so this would work, but for now you have to explicitly wire up things. Spencer/Ge, chime in here if I”m wrong and this is now implemented, but I don’t see it working for me. To fix, you can modify the first few lines to look like this.
