Any way to use .pos passing a string?

Hi, I have an array of strings (p1) that contains the same names of SndBuff instances (kk sn), I would like to pass the strings of the array to trigger samples and I don't know how to do it. Here is some test code: SndBuf kk => dac; SndBuf sn => dac; me.dir() + "/audio/kick_01.wav" => kk.read; me.dir() + "/audio/snare_01.wav" => sn.read; kk.samples() => kk.pos; sn.samples() => sn.pos; while( true ) { ["kk", "sn"] @=> string p1[]; for( 0 => int i; i < p1.cap(); i++) { 0 => p1[i].pos; // not working 0.25::second => now; } } Thanks, Federico López

I have lots of programs that spork hundreds or thousands of shreds without this error. So, without seeing your code, my guesses (and questions) are as follows: Are you running this on a small memory architecture? Since you say headless, I'm guessing maybe Raspberry Pi? It could be that you're running out of memory, so see next question. Does the shred that you're sporking declare new UGs or require memory to be allocated (arrays, lots of string manipulation, etc.)? In general, this is a bad idea if you can avoid it. ChucK does no garbage collection, which means that you need to be cautious about declaring memory. So even a shred as simple as: fun void mySine() { SinOsc s => dac; Math.random2f(100,1000) => s.freq; second => now; s =< dac; } will eat up memory, because even though the SinOsc is unchucked and never computes again, the memory for that structure is still around. We want, someday to make ChucK a proper garbage collecting language, but it's hard, especially for real-time systems. If this turns out to be your issue, then one way to handle this is to make a global pool of fixed resources and have your shred grab from that. Like classic "round robin voice stealing" in synthesizers: SinOsc s[100]; 0 => int next2Use; fun void mySine() { next2Use => int thisOne; 1 +=> next2Use; if (next2Use > 99) 0 => next2Use; s[thisOne] => dac; Math.random2f(100,1000) => s[thisOne].freq; second => now; s[thisOne] =< dac; } // to test: while (1) { Math.random2f(0.01,0.1) :: second => now; spork ~ mySine(); } I just fired up a few dozen of these running in parallel, VM showed 2600 total shreds running, no problem (and no clicks or dropouts!!). Hope this helps, if none of this applies, then you may have discovered a strange bug. Source code please, and we can all scratch our heads on it. Thanx!! Latency issues on Windows

Hello! I'm putting together a workshop for visually impaired musicians to make DIY music controllers using arduino + chuck. Everything is working a charm but the only issue is latency on the Windows platform. I understand that the default windows audio drivers may be the root cause but I am wondering whether there are any alternatives or advice as to how to improve. I tried running the ASIO versions mentioned on this forum post: http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-18931-25.html However these were made with the older version of ChucK that does not feature the Serial functions introduced in the latest version which are necessary for the arduino communication. Any advice will be much appreciated! Conor B

147th shred removed...segmentation fault?

Hi, I've got a .ck file (designed to run in headless mode) that programmatically generates and destroys shreds (for a few different purposes). The calls always look something like this: lfoModShredReference.id() => Machine.remove; spork~LFOMod(msTapTempoRate) @=> lfoModShredReference; This works flawlessly until I get to shred 147, then on exactly the 147th shred, ChucK crashes with "segmentation fault" every time. Is this a bug, or is there perhaps some startup parameter I can change to fix this? Thanks, rs

Ok, I just tried this on Windoze 8.1 Pro. Newest installer from The ChucK/mini download page. Ran both command line and miniAudicle. Audacity, QuickTime player, iTunes, and my own sndview (DOSBox based sound/spectrum viewer, First created in 1988, migrated forward since) all read and play the created file without complaint. Only GoldWave gave me a warning that the internal size didn't match the header, but opened it and played it fine. Problem: chuck --silent --srateXXXXX not timing correctly

Hi, I'm running the latest version of chuck on OSX 10.6.9. I've got a program that doesn't process audio, but it does take MIDI input in realtime and it outputs various kinds of synchronization signals based on it. I originally tried running it with just the --silent flag but chuck was 'saying' that time durations were way shorter than they were. I attempted the same thing without the --silent flag (defaulting to onboard soundcard) and time durations were accurate. Then, I tried using both the --silent and --srate44100 flags to see if that would help, but it behaved just as it did with the --silent flag. The ultimate goal is to install this program on a Raspberry Pi without using sound at all (and chuck on RPi freaks out unless you install a bunch of other stuff, if you try to run it without the --silent flag). Anyway, is there a method or trick to make the combined usage of --silent and --srateXXXXX properly measure duration in realtime use? Thanks for any help! rs

WvOut format

Hi, The output format of WvOut is coming out wrong. Audacity doesn't recognize it as a wav (does not recognize type, suggests import raw), and windows media player rejects it as well. Importing the file into Audacity as raw data works somewhat, but as I'm diagnosing a dc-offset, I need an exact result. here's some example code: SinOsc s => Gain g => dac; s.freq(400); g.gain(0.5); g => WvOut w => blackhole; "blerg.wav" => string file; w.wavFilename(file); 1::second => now; w.closeFile(file); // what is the function of the argument here? can WvOut record multiple buffers at once? I'm not so experienced with chuck but experienced in "normal" computer programming. Running miniAudicle 1.3.1 with chuck 1.3.3.0 on windows 7 pro sp1 (32 bit). Thanks, George
