timing without audio?

As I understand it, you send some number to 'now' and for that length of time the confuser will continue to run whatever oscillator instances you've started, then go on through your code. So if you only used it to generate values to trigger voices and changes in other software, you could run Chuck without much overhead? Is this right, and how can I minimize that overhead? bandwidth in band reject filter

Hello, I'm currently using the C*APS Eq10 10-band equalizer http://quitte.de/dsp/caps.html#CAPS_for_Electric_Guitar via the LADSPA ChuGin https://github.com/jwmatthys/chugins as part of an effect but all I really need is something to scoop the mids. I thought I might use the BRF band reject filter http://chuck.cs.princeton.edu/doc/program/ugen_full.html#BRF I can't tell how to set the bandwidth (or described another way, the range of frequencies around the center frequency that are rejected by the filter). I went off into reading Miller Puckette's book Theory and Techniques of Electronic Music http://msp.ucsd.edu/techniques.htm and am now lost somewhere in the imaginary plane. The definition of the Q parameter seems to vary among the different ChucK filters (resonance vs quality vs Q) and I suppose I should understand what that means. Feel free to tell me to go back to my reading. :) michael

Identifying special keys (e.g control, alt, arrow keys)

I'm interested in making a ChucK program which responds to key presses to assist users' typing. Using ascii codes from HidMsg.ascii, I can differentiate between many keys, but not some keys like the arrow keys, (on windows) control, alt, shift, tab, home, end and some others. I wasn't able to find documentation for the Hid or HidMsg classes. Is there any way to identify these keys in ChucK?

confused about time/control

greetings! a little help for a newbie?.... when i run this bit of code, i would have expected the while loop to run for only 5 seconds, printing out a new value for "beat" whenever new data comes in from MIDI. then, it should print "done". instead, it just keeps printing the new "beat" values for as long as i let it run, never getting to the "done" line. i don't understand why the "while( now < later )" doesn't kill the loop after 5 seconds. also, xruns go through the roof and i have to kill it externally. i'm on linux, using jack. Static attributes and instantiation

Hi, This is weird behavior I think: -------------------- public class Foo { 1 => static int bar; } <<< Foo.bar >>>; // prints 0! Why? Foo f; <<< Foo.bar >>>; // prints 1, ok 2 => Foo.bar; <<< Foo.bar >>>; // prints 2, ok Foo f2; <<< Foo.bar >>>; // prints 1 again! -------------------- So it seems that static members get initialized only on instantiation, but to make it funky, on every instantiation... Is this a buggy implementation of static members, or am I missing something? Not complaining, just a question. :) Thanks! Gonzalo

Calling parent methods

Casting behaviour

I have this (unexpected?) behaviour when casting. I can cast a object to its parent class, but the methods that get executed are still their own (and viceversa). I.e.: ---------------------------------- public class Parent { fun void test() { <<< "Parent" >>>; } } class Child extends Parent { fun void test() { <<< "Child" >>>; } } Parent p; Child @ ch; p $ Child @=> ch; ch.test(); // prints Parent Child ch2; ch2 $ Parent @=> p; p.test(); // prints Child ---------------------------------- Is this intended behavior? What's the point of casting then? I might describe too what I'm trying to do, maybe there's a better approach. I have a .create method in Parent that returns a Parent object, and I wanted to create that same method in Child, but I can't do it because the arguments are the same, and it won't let me overwrite the method when only the return type changes. So to create a child with the .create method, I do this: Parent.create(...) $ Child @=> Child ch; Which works, but then it still behaves as a parent, so it defeats the whole purpose. Thoughts? replace multiple shreds simultaneously

greetings! it seems there's no command-line option for simultaneously replacing multiple shreds, right? i.e. something like this isn't implemented: chuck = 1 firstreplacement.ck 2 secondreplacement.ck did i miss something? if it's not possible, what are some good workarounds? Miniaudicle not showing Preferences menu

And getting the following message out the console window (on a mac osx 10.6.8) [chuck]: system error: (CoreAudio unknown error) getting sample rate info... It happened suddenly. Not sure to what triggered it... I upgraded the miniaudicle on my computer but the problem persisted. Help? Please?
