Those are some great FFT resources, Rebecca - thanks for sharing! I also wholeheartedly second the recommendation for the DSP Primer book. In addition, I have linked the following FFT overviews to people who are intimidated by articles that lean towards the more academic end of the spectrum: 1. this was just wrong, though perhaps some will get amusement out of it. the first message subject i heard about the new chuck msp max object or what ever that is, i heard the words new chuck and got all excited, thinking that the new version of chuck had been released. i was planning a pizza celebration for me and a few close friends just on hearing those first two words. then the subject continued and i heard about the object for that other program and realized it wasn't new chuck at all. so much for the pizza party, having that now would get me all depressed because it didn't have any reason to happen any longer.

new [chuck~] max/msp object

(Most of you on this list already know what ChucK can do, but here is my generic announcement for those interested) Everyone -- Version 1.6 (Max5) of the [chuck~] Max/MSP object is available for free download: http://music.columbia.edu/~brad/chuck~/ for Macintosh OS X (10.5/6). The new [chuck~] object is up-to-date with the latest (v 1.2.1.3) release of the ChucK language, including the LiSa live-sampling unit generators and the unit-analysis generators in the 1.2.1.3 package. [chuck~] imbeds the ChucK music-programming language in Max/MSP, bringing a sophisticated set of synthesis and signal-processing tools into the Max/MSP environment. [chuck~] also features an advanced timing and scheduling system in addition to a functional-style programming interface for algorithmic operations. Full source for the object and the language are also on-line. No Windows version is available at present -- sorry! This is a fun object -- enjoy it! Removing room reverb - any algorithms or chuck programs to do this?

Is this even possible? I know very little about DSP. I was talking to a former Lexicon employee and he said they were looking into building hardware to do this, but the projects seems to have suffered an untimely death. -- Rich

Aha, this is a known problem with Mini where it loses it's mind as regards the audio device(s). Happens most often when a sound device has been plugged/unplugged, but can happen when you've changed devices otherwise. Fix is easy: Go into MiniAudicle Preferences and hit "Restore Defaults" button. (if you had file paths set up, then you'll need to go and fix those again). But after that Mini can see the DAC again. having some issues with mini audicle want to know why when i run virtual machine it says shred hanging and dont know why have deleted re downloaded and it wont let me add a shred to virtual machine can anyone help me

I can pipe m-A to Quartz via Soundflower, but then I am not able to hear it. I tried combining Soundflower and the regular audio output by making an aggregate audio device with OS X's Audio/Midi Set-up. Frequency domain and fractals?

Hello, Does anyone knows about any interesting book, paper, etc using chaos for sound generation? I have seen some documentation about chaos and music but until now everything has been related to the organization of the notes through a "chaotic system". None of them to the actual generation of sound. I'm wondering if it would be interesting to employ non-lineal equation's systems to populate fft matrixes (like the Gabor matrix) and then translate that data into sound using inverse fft...
