chuck in a safe box?

Hi, I'm toying with a small idea to let people upload bits of chuck code to a website and then have it play out to the world. I haven't started coding anything yet, but I was wondering how hard it is to put ChucK into a safe environment so that it can't touch the OS? chuck posibilities at sample level

Hi, im new in this list, i was using supercollider before, somebody told me about something about the posibilities of chuck for making sample level operations. Can anybody explain me about this? Do you think chuck has new posibilities related to sample level synthesis? that cannot been done with sc3? can anybody explain this further? thanks in advance R.

Hi everybody ,im new with chuck ive downloaded chuck and i was playing with it. I was wondering is it possible to run a command directly in the shell instead of saving the code in a .ck file and execute it ? are there any tutorial or examples of chuck for live coding out there? thanks R.

Selecting Driver

Hi all, Is it possible to select which driver for the soundcard I want to use? Like in Reason or Logic you can select the ASIO driver and change the buffersize... Any help would be appreciated! Greetings, Tom

newbie envelope follower question

Hi guys(sorry that i sent this same email to the chuck list and not the chuck-users)Im just getting started this week in chuck. Been reading the documentation and following the examples, but im stuck with trying to start an envelope that contours the filter frequency just when i hit any key. I have this patch (below) that (supposedly) contours the filter and the oscilator at the same time, but i dont get what is wrong cause it is not working. It seems as if the envelope is sliding but it is not being updated when the amplitude envelope is on. Im sorry if this is too obvious but have not found a way to do it. Circular references in class definitions

in short: Is there any way to have two separate classes that reference one another in their definitions? I want objects of type A to encapsulate a collection of objects of type B, but for objects of type B to also be able to hold a reference to their containing object. Alternatively, I could use an event system where the child objects (class B) raise an event that the containing object (class A) listens to. I'm not entirely familiar with ChucK's event model yet, though. Here's the full story of the problem: I'm currently working on an instrument for the Novation Launchpad using ChucK. The rest of my explanation assumes you have a basic familiarity of the layout and functionality of the Novation Launchpad. The way it's structured, I have one class called Launchpad that is responsible for all data and functionality common to an individual device. It contains a collection of 8 LPIs (Launchpad Instruments). At any given time, one LPI on the device is in focus; interaction with the main grid and rightmost column controls that LPI. The topmost row selects between the 8 LPIs. The Launchpad object's main jobs are to allow the user to switch focus between LPIs, and to observe MidiIn messages from the physical device. So the Launchpad class handles and routes incoming data. The LPIs are the actual synthesizers; they manage (most) outgoing data. The problem I'm faced with is that the individual LPIs don't have a reference to the Launchpad itself, so I'm having trouble tracking the state of the MIDI lights in ChucK. This is needed to reduce the number of MIDI messages that I send to the device; ultimately I want to prevent any MIDI message that would tell the device to turn off a light that's already off. These messages have been creating a bottleneck, and under certain circumstances introduce unacceptable delay. Chuck Dynamic Linking?

Dear Dev'rs: >From the documentation here: http://chuck.cs.princeton.edu/doc/program/stdlib.html "ChucK Standard Libraries API these libraries are provide by default with ChucK - ****new ones can also be imported with ChucK dynamic linking (soon to be documented...).***" (emphasis mine) Does "soon to be documented" mean that the functionality already exists in the current version or in CVS or at all? I'd like to add that I personally like seeing completely improvised performances by people trying to come to grips with new ideas at least as much as slick pre-planned presentations. I'd argue that the former have a bigger chance of sharing "public thought" than the latter. New user, first question

Hello, chuckers. I'm new to the language and am working on my first project (code to perform Terry Riley's "In C"), and I've got two related questions: First, is there a way to regulate, compress or limit the cumulative volume of shreds? Through the tutorial/documentation, I saw the .gain operator, but I'm thinking that I'll have a variable number of shreds, so figuring out the cumulative gain cuts in advance wouldn't make sense, and really, I'll mostly be in danger of clipping when the additive waves are in phase and frequency, but perhaps not elsewhere, but I wasn't seeing any obvious unit analyzers for compression or gain control. Second, and parallel to that, is there a way to globally change the gain of the master dac for dynamics when the generators are in different shreds? Thanks...
