IXP1200 - Replicating microblocks across microengines

Can anyone provide me with any information about replicating microblocks across multiple microengines on the IXP1200, either at start up or during execution? The SDK seems to prevent loading copies of a microcode file onto multiple microengines at startup, and ix_res_open is not calling its callback when I try to open a channel to the resolver in order to create a new microace at runtime. Hi, I would be grateful if someone could guide me on this part: So far i have done the following things: 1.Installed all the rpms from the /rpms directory. 2.Installed minicom and i can see a cygmon prompt. 3.Installed xinetd, tftp,tftp-server. i started the /etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd start The ramdisk_img.gz and zImage are in the /opt/ixasdk/executive/bin directory. I am not using a separate machine to load the ramdisk and zImage. At the cygmon the local IP and remote IP are both the same machine/localhost,set the countdown value to 10,saved the config to flash memory and then did a gl to boot linux but it keeps giving me a failed to initialize tftp transfer,check network connection and IP addr error. Then i tried to tftp from the cygmon prompt by doing : cygmon>tftp 140.192.37.19 140.192.37.19 /opt/ixasdk/executive/bin/zImage c4008000 It still gives the same error. Any suggestions? Hi, With reference to my ENP 2505 installation, while trying to install the updated ENP2505 drivers and Arm-Linux kernel from the Intel Eduation CD by doing a rpm -recompile boot_drv-2.0-1.src.rpm i get an error: "rpm: arguments to --root (-r) must begin with a /" In fact i am logged in as root and still i get the same error. Any suggestions. [ixp] separate uofs for microengines

Hello we're having some confusion here with different microengines. Specifically, it should be possible to load an UOF file on ME 1, and another file on ME 2, but we haven't been able to figure out how. Also, does anyone know how the compiler handles variable allocation? If two different UOF files both use a set of variables, it may be the case that the compiler places both sets in overlapping parts of memory, thus causing all sorts of problems. Any suggestions on how to overcome this? Thanks, Pieter

Hello. Have anyone use IXP1200's DMA operation? I want to use DMA for transferring data from host computer's memory to IXP1200 evaluation board. Sure, my IXP1200 EB is attached to host computer through PCI slot. And I write Microengine program like below 1. Make DMA descriptor. 2. point tmp1 to DMA descritptor's address 3. And use pci_dma instruction like below pci_dma[tmp1, 0, any_queue], ctx_swap But, after pci_dma instruction, nothing is done more. Do I mistake? Or do you have similar situation? Sharing configurable data.

(ENP2505 - linux embedded) Hi, I have "successfully" written a idl server for my app, to enable runtime configuration. Now, I like some of these settings to be shared between the StrongARM and the microengines. The l2bridge code uses the hdbm.h macros HDBM_READ_SRAM and HDBM_WRITE_SRAM to accomplish this. However, this file is in c++ and I use plain c. What is the right way for me to share SRAM memory? Could I use the Resource Manager interface Read/Write functions? Please tell me if I'm way off Also, how do I recover from a seg. fault? I'm unable to unload the ace after a crash, and after rebooting the board, it fails to reload the kernel. question about br_bset

Hello, everybody I encounter a problem when I debug my microace code. I really don't know how to solve this weird problem. In following code: scratch[read, $l0197!entry4, l0196!tmp2, l0196!tmp, 1], ctx_swap alu[l0196!entry_hashed, --, b, $l0197!entry4] nop nop nop br_bset[l0196!entry_hashed, 7, m335_not_found1#] I read a value from scratch pad, i.e. entry4 the value is 0xff when I debug so the br_bset instruction should branch to m335_not_found1#. Howerver, it branch to 1980(not exists, totally 1000 instructions in my code). And the microengine stop there. Anyone knows why this happened? Thanks a lot! Yong Liu

No packets received from the card

Hello, we have a strange problem and the most annoying part is that it shows up pretty randomly. The boards used are ENP-2505. Sometimes, when we start some aces, the card does receive packets, the ace does send a response, but its response doesn't get to the wire (it happens even with the WWBump example). The RmSendPacket() doesn't report any error and everything seems to be working, except this little thing - no packet is received from the card. It seems that the packets get lost somewhere in the DL_SASink[] macro, but I don't really know how to check it or debug it. Restarting the aces usually helps, but still, this happens once in 4 or 5 times, which makes it VERY annoying when developing something (especially if it involves more machines at the same time, like in our case). Has anyone else encountered this problem and, perhaps, found a solution to it? memory unit question

not sure if I've read the answer to this anywhere, but I think if I had I would remember. I've been assuming that a single memory unit can service multiple requests in parallel, e.g. sdram[read, $blah, blah, 0, 1] sdram[write, $blahh, blahh, 1, 1], sig_done ; ... ctx_arb[sdram] those two commands will take closer to the time it takes one command to complete than the time it takes a two commands to complete serially, right? I would hope thats the case, but I don't know if I've ever seen that explicitely confirmed or repudiated. thanks, Najati

compilation error

hot swapping of microcode on IXP1200 microengines

Hi, I am trying to implement an API using which I will be able to load microcode on a particular microengine without disturbing any other microengine (ue) of IXP1200. For this I need to build a microcode object file (.uof) which has code for only one ue. I generate the .uof file only for one microengine as following (e.g. for microengine 2). (dbg.list contain code for only for ue #2) $(UCLD) -u 2 dbg.list -o dbg.uof I have searched the Intel documents and I have not seen a single example where we generate a .uof file for only one ue. everywhere we generate a .uof file which contains code for all the ue's. So I am not sure if the above method will work (though it does generate the dbg.uof file all right). Has anyone tried this method before or something similar in which you generate a .uof file for only one ue? Is it possible to do this? If the answer is yes, has anyone tried to implement this hot swaping of microcode on one microengine without disturbing any other microengine? Thanks for any help, regards, Sanjay

Question about packet generation program

I have analyzed and modified PktGen application of VERA project. But I am something confused. In that program, packet is actually transferred? I think that header information of simple packet which is made at PktGen application is not enough. Namely, IP address is just 10.0.0.1 and MAC address is just 00:00:00:01. If I want to transfer packet to real system(ex. another linux PC), I would change these adresses? Plz give me answer or any hints. Thanks!

First, things work perfect before I stop the transmit. I tried to stop the transmit in some ports by giving "skip assignments" to the ports via the transmit scheduler. When I stop the transmit, the receive also stops in those ports. My purpose is to give some ports more bandwidth than other, so by stopping them for a while, the Transmit State Machine skip them and send packets from other ports. I use the original L3fwd16_RFC1812 and only change the part of the transmit scheduler in the file ixp_tx.c. I don't touch in any receive file. The situation of stop receiving packets occure also when I drop the receive packets and don't enqueue them. Thanks again. I meant that when I stop transmit, the IX bus device status shows no packet been received . Thanks for your reply. I'll try to explain my second question. When I ran the simulator, I've noticed that in case that the transmit doesn't works ( I stop to send packets from some reason) the receive also stops. I assume that in the beginning of the simulation the receiving packets are created by the script command, and then the transmitted packets go back as a received packets. My question is: if there is some way that the received packets won't be the transmitted packets, so in case I stop transmitting, the receiving continue. I hope that now the question is more clear. Hi, I'm working of L3fwd16_RFC1812. I would like to check my program with packets in different sizes (random if possible) Is any of you can explain me how can I do that? or maybe you have more complicate packet generator that you can send me? Another question - How do I change the dependency of the receive and transmit in the project ? (I want the the receive microengines will send packets all the time, without depend in the transmit rate) Thanks a lot!!

Hi, I have question: IX bus speed:66Mhz Core clock freq:166Mhz To check the receive ready flag(rcv_rdy_lo) it requires 11cycles. Details: Queue: 4 cycles Dequeue: 1 cycle Finish and sends signal to thread : 2 cycles thread receives the completion signal: 4 cycles cycles based on core clock frequency My question is: Is their a way to find the cycle counts(for each step) without actually running the code? Hello. I have gotten many informations from VERA project source and this mailing list-source. Thanks! I have one Question. When is LED of Etherenet turned on? I think that after 'Eth_InitPort(i)', 'Eth_StartPort(i)' function is called, LEDs are turned on. But those are not turned on! What is problem? Broken? LEDs are turned on at any other time? Plz, answer. Thanks.
