Hi, I wonder, if I can use Workbench to do "hardware" debug? It's said that it's OK on EB boards, but I only have a SI board from Radisys. So I'm not sure whether it works. I've tried. Sometimes, it seemed successifully connected with the board, while in the other times, it just reported "Attach to debug library operation failed". It let me puzzled. Who can give some hints? BTW, to my opinion, play with ixp1200 is a game far from fun. There are enormous documents, while it's rather difficult to find wanted information. Cheers! Irvin

Loading uCode from StrongARM

I was wondering if anyone knows the easiest way to load and run a compiled micro-code "list" file from the StrongARM (avoiding having to use the SDK hardware debug). I'd obviously like to incorporate this into the first stages of my ARM code, in order to initialize everything at once. Any help is appreciated. I'm running the provided Linux kernel (ixp_target 2.3.99-pre3-rmk3-np2) on Radisys hardware. Irvin, Are you using VxWorks or Linux? The workbench will function the same on either EB or SI card. I prefer a direct network connection from host to target board, it saves a lot of confusion. Hi Irvine, I have seen interoperability problems between the ENP-2505/6 and some varieties of DELL systems. These problems seem to be related to the Primary lockout bit on the 21555 non-transparent bridge. One quick thing to try, If not already set to 1, change the bootmanager countdown to 1 and try again. Otherwise often another type of backplane (even other DELL systems), and more up to date BIOS may fix your problem. How to get rid of Intel's MicroACE?

Hi, I just have an ixp1200 to develope some applications. Through Intel provides its MicroACE as an default framework for the development, there's some thing that can not fitted into it well; then, following MicorACE becomes painful. Yet, Intel doesn't provide any documents on how to get rid of MicroACE. There's not a clear document on the APIes, which can be used by the application to directly inject microcodes into microengines, and trigger the operation. On a similar note, does anyone have "top" running on IXP1200? I was able to cross-compile top using the IXA SDK 2.0, but then top needs libncurses. Also, by the way, ps does not show process priorities. Anyone know why this is so? Hello! I have encountered some problems on debugging C source code under the Workbench. I want to 'examine' or 'deposit' the C defined variable in transator's command output window. For instance, ex f0.reg.reg_name_0 While the compiler won't generate the symbol representing the variable, I can only use the following instead: ex f0.reg.@b31 We know that the C compiler provide global_label function to preserve the C label. IXF440 10/100 Ethernet controller Issues

Dear all, Can anyone from Intel advise me on this: The IXF440 Datasheet dated from 1998 to the recent copy makes a reference to the register TERR_STT. (check TERR_STT on Page 34 and 50.) But I think this register cannot be found. I want to know whether TERR_STT is a typo error and what actually is meant is TXMT_STT (register that handles the causes for transmit stops) instead ? Can I also check whether the memory map for Slow ports (MAC 0 and 1) for both Evaluation board and Spectacle Island remains the same, as indicated in the mail "First Pass at Mac Address Map" found in the SDK CDROM: ie. it ranges from base 3840 0000 to base 3840 F000 ? For example 3840 3000 would mean Port 3. However, using OctalMAC_NetStat dump on Spectacle Island, I observed that the status for port 3 were gathered from 3840 3800 instead and not from 3840 3000. I tried to verify by dumping memory from StrongARM and the strange thing is memory portion at 3840 3000 had the corresponding data that I wanted but memory values at 3840 3800 were mostly zeroed. I also noticed that the MAC register TX_TSHD_BOFF was configured to be 0xa3 by NetAPP just before Developer Workbench was run to start the microengines but the moment after the microengines were started and running, TX_TSHD_BOFF changed to 0xaf (FIFO threshold increases dramatically). Shouldn't this threshold be fixed at the start by StrongARM and why should the FIFO threshold change only after microengines start to run? I also tried to read the Slow port portions that are memory mapped to Microengines' SRAM memory address space from 007f ffff to 0070 0000. From the programmer's manual, I know that the microengines can do so but it seems that I cannot read values in SRAM 007f ffff to 0070 0000 using memory watch in the Developer Workbench 2.1 for example sram[0x70182a]. Workbench reported undefined address. However the strange thing is that it read nicely from 0000 0000 to 001f ffff. May I know if there is something I can do to make the Workbench to read that address space ? I appreciate you reading through these questions. Thank You very much. Best regards, cheewei

Hi all, We are trying to run the examples from the IXP1200 Programming book (not using the ACE framework and debugging from the WorkBench) in the enp2505 board. They are working well in simulation mode, but once we indicate to run them in hardware, the rcv_rdy_lo register is always 0x00 even we are sending packets to the port 0. What do we need to activate the ports? We can see only the Hardware->Options->Ports tab to start them, is there something more we have to do? Thanks Jorge H

Hi, The original firmware supplied with an IXP1200 board is also present in the IXA SDK in the directory IXP1200/BoardSupport/bin. But there are many subdirectories inside this directory. How do I find the right version for the evaluation board that I have? Thanks, Magesh

Hi, Can someone from Intel on this list please help me on this? Please find enclosed a description of a problem in making the octal Fast Ethernet ports run at 100 Mbps when using the VERA runtime. Today, I restored the flash to the original Intel supplied image, changed the jumper settings back to the factory settings, put the card back in the Evaluation system chassis and started diagnostics. The problem (of LEDs blinking on the ethernet ports and the link flapping) persists even with the Intel firmware. Is there a way to debug the ethernet ports on the evaluation board? In particular, is there a way to find out what speed the MAC has decided on after autonegotiation or to disable autonegotiation and fix the speed at 100 Mbps? As you can see from the output, the link seems to be flapping. I am sure that the cables that I use are fine (I tested them using a cable tester, connected them on other machines and even used a factory-made CAT5 cable). To cross-check this problem, I also connected one of the IXP1200 ports to a port on a Cisco Catalyst 3500 series switch and observed in the switch's console port that the concerned ethernet port was going up and down fairly regularly. Has anyone seen this before? Given this behavior, is there a way to debug the ethernet ports on the IXP1200 board? In particular, is there a way to find out what speed the MAC has decided on and if possible, disable autonegotiation? FYI, if I interconnect two ports of IXP1200 with each other with a crossover cable, the link is established fine, the yellow LED on the port is lit and link LED is also up. I have an IXA Education Workstation with inside an IXP1200 ENP-2505 PCI board. Can I use Vera? Because in the site said: IXP1200 Evaluation Board users: Update the flash following the directions here. (Princeton people may wish to use our BP-1200 device programmer and use the directions here.) Change the jumper settings on the board so that it may be installed in a PC running Linux by following the directions here. , Install the updated IXP1200 Evaluation Board and/or PMC694 board. hi, while trying to load the microcode i get this error "bad object error occurred during load microcode operation" ---------------->>>> "microcode load failed"---------------->>>> "unexpected return status (0x1) from udebug library when trying to updatefreestore." i am working with the VxWorks OS there is no problem connecting to the IXPeb with the tornado, i checked my build settings and it is fine. cant understand the reason for the failior in loading the microcode. one more thing, it worked for a few times before but not anymore. does anyone has a clue? thanks tomer

As you can see from the output, the link seems to be flapping. I am sure that the cables that I use are fine (I tested them using a cable tester, connected them on other machines and even used a factory-made CAT5 cable). To cross-check this problem, I also connected one of the IXP1200 ports to a port on a Cisco Catalyst 3500 series switch and observed in the switch's console port that the concerned ethernet port was going up and down fairly regularly. Has anyone seen this before? Given this behavior, is there a way to debug the ethernet ports on the IXP1200 board? In particular, is there a way to find out what speed the MAC has decided on and if possible, disable autonegotiation? FYI, if I interconnect two ports of IXP1200 with each other with a crossover cable, the link is established fine, the yellow LED on the port is lit and link LED is also up. Hi, This is a question for the guys at Princeton. Can you please briefly describe your hardware setup? I mean 1. what cable (cross-over/straight-thru) you use to connect the ethernet ports on the IXP1200 to the outside world. 2. if you always use a switch/hub between a host and the ixp1200 ethernet ports. 3. what ethernet card and driver do you use on the machines that you connect to the IXP1200 for the IPmm experiment. 4. if you force the speed on any of these ports to 10 Mbps etc. Contrary to some advice on this list for my question on cabling, it seems that the ethernet ports on the IXP1200 behave like ports on hubs. This means that straight-thru cables have to be used to connect an IXP1200 port to a PC's ethernet card. When I do this, the yellow LED on the IXP1200 port blinks and the LED in the LED bank in the middle of the two quad connectors does not come on. If I force the speed on the linux PC's interface to 10 Mbps (using mii-diag), the link LED (in the LED bank) comes on, but when I try to send traffic, there is some debug output on the IXP1200's serial port (indicating packet reception) initially. After some time, there is no further output and I get carrier errors on the PC (found from ifconfig). The only configuration in which I have been able to make the IXP1200 ports receive packets is this Linux PC's eth1 <--- STRAIGHT-THRU ----> 10 Mbps ONLY HUB <----- CROSS-OVER ----> 1XP1200 ETH port Consequently, I am confused.
