Hello, We were considering trying to install the Vera software on ixp1200 boards we recieved here at Purdue. However, I noticed that the software was written for the IXP12EB evaluation board. We, however, are using Radisys ENP-2505 boards : http://www.radisys.com/oem_products/ds-page.cfm?ProductDatasheetsID=1055&ms… Has anyone managed to get Vera compiled and run for this board? Some notable differences between the two seem to include a lack of jumpers and LEDs on the Radisys board. This board seems to use the same BootMgr, although it seems to lack VxWorks. (actually bad things seem to happen when you try to boot VxWorks) Any information would be helpful. Thanks in advance, -- Chris Telfer Purdue University

Memory map question...

Ive asked this question before and got no answer: according to the header files in asm/arch-ixp1200/ the way SDRAM packet memory (address 0 in the micorengines) is mapped to virt memory hasnt changed between BV the eval board. But, when I go to read from virt addr 0xd8000000 (where DRAM_BASE is in board.h) I dont get what I write to 0x0 in the uE. Where is the bottom of the uE's SDRAM mapped in linux? An additional question: how exactly is linux positioned in memory? What I really want to know is where can the uEs write packets to and how much space do they have on the BV boards? The LEDs on the IXP1200 boards are dual colored. Look back in your logs to see which patch failed. Patch should have created a *.rej file for the hunk that failed. I am assuming you are using the tarballs from netwinder.org true? A far easier way to get a working toolchain is to use the toolchain that comes with the Intel IXA SDK 2.0. You can order your free copy of the SDK from http://developer.intel.com/design/network/products/npfamily/sdk2.htm or call 1-800-548-4725 and order SKU number for SDK V2.0 Vol II is A68978-001 This CD set contain an RPM to install a working toolchain. Problem making ixp1200 linux armtoolchain

Hello, I've run into a bit of a snag trying to make the ixp1200 armtoolchain. Make is happy until it exits trying to make the linux_patch target. The single orange light denotes that the port is running at 10Mbps. Untar a new linux tree higher than 2.4.5 in /usr/src/ and change the HDR_DIRS to /usr/src/linux-2.4/include in makefile in "Runtime/linux-i386/driver" directory. hallo, I have some network cards that seem not compatible with the octal ports of the IXP1200 ie. the LEDs show an orange-colored signal when connected using those network cards and not the green-colored indication. I have 6 working 3-Com cards, and all have that same problems. I also have 2 similar working Xircom cards, one gives a green-colored signal and the other not. Dear Scott and all, The README and makefiles given in the release of Vera are clear, and useful enough to get the software and hardware up successfully. I noted some points below during my set-up which I think might be useful to some for the time being. I'm using linux kernel 2.4.7 and both microcode assembler 1.2.76 and 2.0.83. Software set-up: - Do create a soft link linux in /usr/src pointing to linux-2.4 if using linux kernel higher than 2.4.5. - In README.details.txt, after "make nodes", do a "make all" to create vera.o - For microcode with vrp compilation, the uwin's development package failed to install on my win98, so I used a native win32 ports of gnu instead: http://www.wzw.tu-muenchen.de/~syring/win32/UnxUtils.html - The microcode with novrp can be compiled directly using the Intel Developer Workbench. - Do replace #if USE_REGALLOC with #ifdef USE_REGALLOC in some uc source. - All microcodes are compatible with both assembler 1.2.76 and 2.0.83. - Yitzchak Gottlieb from Princeton provided the following definitions to compile IPmm and IPcache. Include them at $VERAROOT/Runtime/ixp1200/sa/src/Lib/mem_access_p.h if they are not there. /* BEGIN DEFINTIONS */ extern inline u16 memRead16(u32 address) { return *((volatile u16 *)address); } extern inline void memWrite16(u32 address, u16 value) { *((volatile u16 *)address) = value; } /* END DEFINITIONS */ Hardware set-up : - I was indeed not careful enough with the J27 jumper. I just opened a factory-fresh development system and the factory setting for J27 was 1-2. Be sure to verify all jumper settings to ensure they are jumpered for the Vera setting. Also, pin 1 for the jumpers is denoted by a square solder pad on the back side of the board. I hope this helps, Scott
