Installation of IXP2400

Hi, We are in the process of installing the IXP2400 based development board (ENP2611) referring the IXA Education Workstation Setup Guide. We have installed all the software as per the following procedure: 1. Installed Redhat Linux 7.3 in one PC. 2. Installed Windows2000 in the second PC. 3. Installed IXASDK3.51 in the Linux machine. 4. Installed the Montavista Preview Kit. 5. In the Windows machine, we have installed the IXASDK3.51, IXASDK3.51 Firmware and Drivers, IXASDK Software Framework 3.51. We are able to simulate some sample programs. 6. We have plugged in the ENP2611 board in the Linux machine. On switching on the host PC, we observed that display and keyboard is not active, We assume the system is not booting when the board is plugged into the system. We also observed that the ENP2611 board is getting powered on and communicating with the Windows based machine through the serial link. (We are getting the display on the windows machine in the hyperterminal as �Redboot >�. 7. It was also observed that on removal of ENP2611 board from the linux host, the PC works properly. IXP 1200 guidance reqd

This is with ref to IXP 1200. The Layer 3 forwarding code given in the examples is working fine on hardware. But the chapter 9 bridging code, as well as the subsequent modifications we have done on this code, fail to work in hardware. the port sends the packet to an external interface and when i try to retreive the same packet it says no packet exits . by this iam not able to get the packets for checking the feedback mechanism iam trying to implement --------------------------------- Yahoo! Problem with connecting host to IXP1200 board

Hi all, I have followed all the procedure given in the manual to connect the host machine to the IXP1200 evaluation board. I am summarising the steps taken by me: 1.Start ftp server 2.Starting hyperterminal and switch on the board 3.Let it boot with all the proper settings of ip and username/passwds for vxworks image 4.Start Tornado and configure server 5.Launch the server 6.Ld < c:\ixp1200\vxworks_lib\VxWorks_Gig.o 7.NetApp_GigInit 8.Start Developer's workbench and open a project 9.Set hardware options and hardware debugging All the above steps go pretty smoothly, but when i try to go in the debugging mode, it gives the following error: " error opening network connection to node 'target' " where, "target" is the target server name i have configured. I have checked for faulty cables, faulty adapters, proper jumper settings on the board, etc. But i couldnt get through inspite of all being fine. Previously, the board has been used to carry out hardware testing successfully. This is the first time such an error is encountered. Please show a way out if u have encountered such a problem and got thru. Thanks in advance. Himanshu IIT Bombay.

regarding setup,strong ARM,Receiving a packet

Hai, I am having some doubts.I have installed the IXA SDK and working in the environment.Now i want to work in strong ARM processor.For that I have to install RedHat Linux 6.3.But i searched for that for downloading it.unfortunately i didn't get that.can i use a higher version than 6.3.Im having Redhat Linux 7.2. Im going to install both the OS in the single system and to install the VMware.There is one more option.Installing the two OS in different systems and to connect the two systems by a cable.Can anyone tell me which ever is easier?Some of my friends told that if you install VMware be careful.otherwise sometimes the system crashes.so kindly tell me which setup can be done? I get into the hyperterminal and im having a <cygmon> prompt.After that i dont know how to proceed.Can you answer me this problem also. I want to receive a packet and write the program which is in the text book (IXP programming by Robert Kunze)and didn't how to run it and where to set the breaking point like that.Im familiar with how to create a frame and assigning the ports and the devices. Asl driver for ixp1200 Evaluation Board

I been trying to run the example microaces supplied with sdk 2.01 on ixp1200 board. initially the ixasl.o driver had some unresolved symbols but i resolved them by linking the module against $linuxsoruce/arch/arm/mm/mm- ixp1200.c the driver has no unresolved symbols now, However when i try to load the driver by starting the ixstart script the driver ixasl.o segfaults . i would like to know whether i ace programming framework is supported by ixp1200 board if yes then from where can i download the latest drivers if anyone has them ?? it's not available on intel website.With the Deadlines to complete the project coming close i would be really thankful if u could solve this problem... Also i would like to know if ace framework is available for vxworks os.... thanking you....

Even after trying at different sourcess, I have not been able to get a copy of that. Would any of the subscribers have a copy of that? If so, then can anyone arrange a copy for me? I'm having trouble using the hash unit. Here is my code : typedef struct hash_t { unsigned int lo; unsigned int hi; } hash_t; hash_t in; hash_t out; in.lo = 0x50; in.hi = 0x20; hash_64((__declspec(sram_read_reg) void *)&in,(__declspec(sram_write_reg) void *)&out,1,ctx_swap); The problem is that no matter what value I assign to the data to be hashed, the output hash is always 0. It turns out that the data to be hashed remains 0 despite being assigned a non-zero value in code. I reckon the compiler puts the hash structures in SRAM (commenting out call to hash_64() results in data to be hashed being assigned the expected non-zero values). This might have something to do with taking address of the hash structures in function call (if address of variable is needed compiler puts variable in SRAM??). I've heard something about the hash multiplier being 0 by default. Could this be affecting the output hash?? Any help greatly appreciated.Also if anybody has written code involving the hash unit please send it to me.... Regards, Simon.

The IXP1200 is different from 2400 is three main ways. 1. The Rx/TX engine is totally different. So for migration you should rewrite your code for send and rx. Framing code will be the same, so 64 quad words format still remain the same. All you need to do is schedule receive and transmit engines. My suggestion would be to use the default rx and tx that comes with 2400 and fit it into your module 2. Memory map is radically different. First of all the memory calculations would have to be changed. For Eg, DRAM has addresses like 1000, 1004, 1008, or something like that. That is it is byte memory and not word memory. So you would have to align yourself very clearly. writing something to 1000 and 1001 as SRAM (i think they have chnaged the name) addresses would not give you the same effect in SRAM (ixp1200). Similar rule apply for SDRAM 3. Efficient Memory Route. You have the advantage of next neighbor and higher scratch along with double DMA size. You may want to use these features for additional performance boost, but if you are looking for portability, you may want to skip this step. All the best in your efforts., Love, Somu

However in order to correctly map and use the HW, an ixp2400 code is really different from an ixp1200 one. While the assembler is pretty similar, Intel has made a number of architectural enhancements and to exploit them it is needed to rethink one's application. YMMV. We are not using Intel micro-blocks (except for reception and transmission blocks). Hello Everybody, Have any one tried to migrate their source code from IXP12XX to IXP2XXX? If yes, do I need to make a lot of changes to the code after migration?
